Jamie Sarkonak is a writer and media commentator based in Edmonton. Her National Post columns appear weekly. Sarkonak’s writing and research work has also been published by the Macdonald Laurier Institute, the Capital Daily in Victoria and the Edmonton Journal, where she worked briefly as a reporter. She was the editor-in-chief of The Gateway, the University of Alberta’s student magazine, and holds a degree in history.
On Thursday, a B.C. superior court judge gave at least half a billion dollars’ worth of government land in an 800-acre zone in southeast Richmond to the Cowichan First Nation, and lit a fuse that could lead to the obliteration of private landowners’ legal title in the area.
