Premier David Eby’s concerns about the court decision recognizing Aboriginal title over some private land in Richmond were echoed this week in the findings of an opinion poll from the Angus Reid institute.
“Most in B.C. believe court decision on Aboriginal title has the potential to damage reconciliation,” read the headline on the news release. “Three-in-five British Columbians (60 per cent) believe the decision to affirm Aboriginal title rights over a portion of Richmond – including privately owned property – will harm the relationship between Indigenous groups and the rest of the province,” said the Reid report.
