Jacqueline Gelineau reports for CBC News:
A forest service road in B.C.’s Kootenay region is slated to be decommissioned, and those who use it to explore the mountains near Trout Lake say they are devastated.
“It’s just a beautiful spot up there,” said Mark Williams, a resident of Trout Creek.
“Really peaceful.”
On Sept. 8, the B.C. Forests Ministry said it would be deactivating the Rady Forest Service Road and opened up bids for contractors willing to take on the project.
According to the ministry, the project will entail barricading the road by Nov. 1, and work to rectify slope stability issues and landslide risk.
The ministry also said because the project is contentious, it will provide 24/7 on-site security services for the entire duration of the deactivation operations.
