There’s a slow-moving scandal unraveling in the West Kootenay that reflects a growing trend of this provincial government quietly stepping back from its commitments to rural communities and refusing to say why. Earlier this summer, local tourism groups raised the alarm after discovering that maintenance and repair to the Trans Canada Trail between Christina Lake and Castlegar had been abandoned without notice.
What should have been a straightforward stewardship responsibility instead became a silent withdrawal. More than 15 organizations representing local communities, economic development, tourism, trails groups, and the regional district united to launch the Restore Stewardship of the CWRT/Trans-Canada Trail: Christina Lake-Castlegar BC campaign.
